Elie Akl

Elie Akl is a tenured Professor of Medicine at the American university of Beirut (AUB) in Lebanon. He serves as the Associate Dean for Clinical Research at the Faculty of Medicine, and leads the division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics (GIMG) at the American university of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC). 

In addition, he directs the AUB GRADE Center, and co-directs the Center for systematic reviews of health policy and systems research (SPARK). His research expertise is in systematic reviews, and practice guidelines (including prioritization, living guidelines, rapid guidelines, guideline adaptation, stakeholder engagement, and conflicts of interest). He serves as a guideline methodologist for the World Health Organization (WHO) and for a number of guideline developers in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR), Europe, and the US.  

He has served as a member of the GIN board since September 2023. 

He published more than 500 peer-reviewed papers and was listed by Thomson Reuters as one of the 2015 "world’s most influential scientific minds" and as one of the “Highly Cited Researchers” yearly since 2015.
